Voting & Taxation

People pay tax, but feel that its not getting properly utilized.

People go for voting, but feel that the elected government is not the choice of junta

Do you see any similarity between both of the above statement? Yes there is.

In both of the cases, most of the people do not willing participate or do not find value in it. Voting or Paying tax, both are considered as unwanted burden on heads.

This has direct impact to how we want to see ourself, our country in future.

A Water park at Lucknow recently did something which led me to think more into the root cause and probably a nice solution to both of the above problems.

During the last voting for state assembly election at Lucknow, water park organisers gave some discount to people who have come to the park after excercising their voting rights…. interesting, isnt it. People had a great watery fun full day that too at discounted price.

Voters got incentive for excercising their ‘right’.

How about giving tax benefit to individuals who have participated in the voting and/or performed his ‘rights’ to make strengthen the future of country/state?

This could probably solve two issues:

1) People would be more excited to participate in voting as they know that there is a direct impact on them in very near term. This could lead to a strong government which is in reality junta ki awaj (voice of mass)

2) People who excercise their vote, would be more than interested in filling returns as they are going to get tax benefits. More taxe collection means more funds with government.

Now think about what a solid elected government can do with this increase in tax funds…. they can do wonders….

Well, all said, I am not sure if everything is that simple and or can be applied, but yes to me it looks like a nice marriage between two problems giving a solid future as its offspring.

Any comments from economists, planners….?
