Career Paths in the Game Industry

I find this article almost comprehensive about possible career paths in the gaming industry. It talks about designer, writer, programmer, visual artist, audio artist, manager, tester et. al. with broadly. Good read.

Mark pointed out in conclusion ” ….It was not my intention of writing this article to describe every job and career path possible in the computer game industry, but instead to give the readers a broad sweep of …..”

And yes he missed out the field I am associated with, I am working on platforms to serve these games, a channel which if missing will keep the games inside the closets of creative nerds :P .

I am talking about platforms like xbox, web, mobile, specialised handheld etc. There is whole niche of jobs which resolves around creating & maintaing these platforms which requires equally challenging skills and gives a mix of gaming and typical jobs. So here are some of the typical roles which are there in games platform domain:

Software Engineer: Nerds, not exactly :) I found some of them around really dashing, center of attraction, bcose he/she is the one who is going to write the actual code . They make everything which helps game reach to you.

Test Engineer: Wo(man) with hammer. Hits hard on every aspects of product to ensures what you get is of fine quality.

Program Manager: One with lots of antennas :P . Responsible for conceptuallizing & managing various features/products for platform, while keeping an eye on market.

Content Designer: Creative minds, works with different teams to provide best contents on the platform. What you see is what you get from this guy

Does this excites you enough to consider a job with gaming platforms?
