Connected wireless to internet @home

Its really wonderful to find this working, especially because I have done setup myself.

I have BSNL broadband connection with Type 4 modem (Huawei MT841) which has facility to connect with 4 wired computers and one using wireless port.

Huawei MT 841

I have an old compaq presario 2100 laptop which I was using for accessing internet at home, but with the arrival of my new notebook, I wanted both of my machines connected simultaneously. Had some difficulty settingup, but yes its working now.

Its complete fun with me roaming along with my Dell L410, all around my home and pinging my wife over yahoo messenger, who is sitting in the same room connected seamlessly to broadband. :) :)

To my surprise I am getting queries how to do the same. Just finished up a support call ;) from my friend Aryadip helping him setting his own network.

Putting up the steps for you all if you also want to have similar setup:

Put following IP setting for your machine
IP: 192.168.1.9, subnet mask=255.255.255.0, default gateway=192.168.1.1

Use following DNS info
DNS: 61.1.96.69, Alternate DNS: 61.1.96.71

Now find out if you can ping 192.168.1.1, you should be able to. This is default IP of your modem.

Now open http://192.168.1.1 in your browser with user=admin:password=admin, this gives you modem configuration page

From left hand side select Connections, select row containing PVC 0 –> 0/35

Delete this row and then add new entry in the table with values
0/35, connection type PPPoE and let other values untoched.

save all and reboot..thats it…..it should be working.

If you still find some issue, post in comments, would be happy to share more details

    Hey Ruchit,
To add to this, me and Ashutosh have done another 2 changes in Web configuration.

    1) Making the WLAN connection secured (in unsecured mode somebody else with WLAN can use ur bandwidth)
    2) In your config you might have faced a prob.. both the computers doesn’t connect to internet at the same time (only one at a time).

    Solutions are as below :

    Steps to solve problem 1

    1) Connect your WLAN via unsecured mode
    2) Open web config page
    3) Go to Basic->WLAN
    4) Select “WEP Method” as WPA-PSK
    5) In the drop down select “PSK-AES
    6) Give a pass key that you want to keep in the “WPA-PSK Key” textbox. Click Apply and then Save All
    7) In the windows tray, right click on the WLAN icon and click on “View all available networks” 8) Select your WLAN and click on “Change advanced settings”
    9) Go to “wireless networks” tab
    10) select your network and click on properties
    11) Configure the “wireless network key” section with the data that you have fed in the web config of modem

    Steps to solve problem 2

    1) Connect using WLAN.
    2) Open web config and navigate to the following location Advanced->NAT
    3) Edit “Virtual Server HTTP” and put your modem IP Address
    4) Click Apply and then Save All

Note : All these settings are related to type 4 modem of BSNL

hey aryadip, I could connect both of my machines with the configuration described by me as above.

Hacking of my bandwith is the serious concern for me especially when my wireless port is not connected to my laptop.

    Hi,

I am unable to view page after entering http://192.168.1.1 in my browser. MT841 is connected. The connection icon shows as connected with packets being received and sent but none of the pages on internet load.

How do I resolve this problem ?

Are you able to ping it at 192.168.1.1?

I guess you have not made the above settings
